Double page spread mock ups

I have added a lead and made this bolder than the rest of the text which is conventional to a music magazine. I also added text, I did this in a conventional way also as I used the usual interview technique of questions and then answers and showed this by a contrast in colours in my texts making the question a seperate colour to the answer. This is also conventional of a magazine.

I added a main image to my double page spread as well as a strapline, this is conventional to a magazine double page spread.
These are the main areas that are covered on magazines double page spreads, I will base my magazine on these main features.

Contents mock ups

Then I decided to see if it would look better/bolder if I used a brighter colour than red as the background colour.

I then decided to add more colour to try and make the contents page stand out more to readers.
I then added matching headlines to the word contents. As well as adding more colour with the red stripe across the top of the page.
After looking at a few different magazines contents pages I decided to try out creating a backing colour for the word contents so that it would stand out better like other magazines.
I tried mixing fonts and colours around to see what looked the best, I also added my main image onto my contents page. I also rotated some of the text to see how it would look.
This is generally how I would lay out  my contents page as it is the conventional way a contents page is usually set out.

Mock ups.

I added the word 'music' to my strapline so that it was more specific towards the reader and so that they know exactly what the magazine has on it.

Again, I added more storylines to my cover so that they audience can see the main things
                                                        that the magazine contains.

I added more story lines so that it look like my magazine has a lot inside at first glance.

I added some more storylines to the left of my magazine. I colour on the back of these, I did this to add colour to my cover and also to make the cover look more interesting and asthough my magazine has a lot to offer inside.

I added a strapline to my front cover. This is conventional to a front cover and it also informs the reader what the mastline stands for.

I added a banner headline to my cover, this is conventional to a magazine cover, it shows what the main image refers to in the magazine.

mock 2

I changed the size of the masthead to make it look bolder and made it bigger so that it stands out more to the reader/buyers. I also changed the brightness on the main image as I feel the brightness was slightly over the top and the photo looks more realistic this way.

mock 1

I edited my image so that it looked professional and so that it had a white background. I then added a masthead, logo and one of the stories included

This is conventionally how a magazine cover will be layed out so this is how I will try and layout my own magazine cover.

Edited images.

I edited the following images so that I could use than in my magazine, I to use these images as I think that they are bold in colour and will stand out on my magazine cover. I will later choose which image will be better to use on my front cover.

The photos I will chose from for my cover

These photos are my favorite from the photo shoot. I am going to choose which would be best to use in my magazine.

I like this photo as it's not boring, he is not just standing there.
I think that this image is also good as he is not just standing there, her is massing with his hair  which is a stereotypical thing for someone with an indie/rock style to do.

I like the following images as they stand out, he is not doing much in the photos but they still stand out.

I think that this image is good as it gives a good representation of an indie/ rock look and also represents music well as he has headphones on.

Costs and how often I will publish my magazine.

One of the main magazines I would consider as competition is Q magazine. The publish their magazine weekly and charge £2:30. I would like to offer a a better deal to readers than this so that they are more likely to go out and by my magazine. Instead of publishing my magazine weekly I will publish it every two weeks. I will then charge £2:90 for my magazine. I will then offer more inside my magazine than Q as I have more time to do so and also I am charging more money so this is what readers would expect. Also if I want readers to choose my magazine rather than another I have to offer them a better deal. I will ensure that they have more pages and written text than other magazines such as Q so that my audience are more likely to buy it, and with mare sales I would have more money to make the magazine even better. I need to beat other magazines at what they offer to make people want to buy it. Also I think that with my magazine being published every two weeks people are more likely to buy it each issue instead of having to buy it weekly. I would publish my magazine monthly yet that may be to long of a wait for eager music fans and also I would have to charge more to keep up with competition and I do not think that having a more expensive magazine will keep the sales as high.

Images for the magazine.

This image is not good as it does not give direct contact to the audience...
I do not like this image as he does not look happy...

Again he is not making eye contact with the audience...

I like this image as it is not plain and he is not just stood there...

Again he is not making eye contact with the audience...

Again he is not making eye contact with the audience...

Theses are too close up and do not show enough of an indie/rock look...

The images I took of him sitting down would not be as effective because he is sat down, when he is stood up it looks as though he is in the magazine for a reason and is opening up to us and telling us everything rater than just sitting which indicates to me that he is not telling us a lot.

Again he is not making eye contact with the audience...

Again he is not making eye contact with the audience, however, it does involve music.

Again he is not making eye contact with the audience but he is listening to music, enhancing that it is a music magazine...

I like this as he is looking directly at the camera and he is holding his scarf making the photo look interesting...

This is not effective as he looks silly...
This is good as it is a typical indie/rock stereotype to play with hair...
This is good as it makes my musician look fun...

I do not like the following images as he looks like he is trying to pose rather than looking relaxed...

Again he is not making eye contact with the audience...
